‘From Page to Screen’ KPL’s New Book Group!

Earlier this month the book group met and had a wonderful evening nibbling on pastries and discussing The Night Circus and we’re ready for it’s film debut in 2013! Now join us for November’s pick, Life of Pi and be ready for the theatrical release on November 21, 2012.

Winner of the 2002 Man Booker Prize Yann Martel’s Life of Pi is a transformative novel, a triumph of storytelling and is widely considered one of the most extraordinary pieces of literary fiction of recent years. The film, directed by Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm, Brokeback Mountain) is already receiving great reviews and promises to be “a gorgeous and accomplished rendering of the massive best-seller.”

Copies of Life of Pi are available at the Library. We’ll have both audio and book formats. The book is also available on the NH Downloadable Books Consortium in audio and ebook formats.

The discussion night will be on Tuesday November 27th at 6:30pm. So pick up a copy and read the book before you see the movie!

And stay tuned for upcoming book club meetings. Over the next year many great stories will be appearing on the big screen allowing us to chose among contemporary fiction, classics, non-fiction, and perhaps even Young Adult/children’s. Such titles as: The Great Gatsby, Devil in the White City, The Glass Castle, The Host, Les Miserable, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Giver, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Beautiful Creatures-are just some of the choices available for us to chose from.

 

Donations of Non-Perishable Food Items Needed

KPL, in partnership with the Seacoast Libraries Cooperative, is collecting non-perishable food items and toiletry items for Rockingham Community Action. We need your help. We accept donations during normal open hours: Tuesdays 9 am to 8 pm, Wednesdays and Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm, Thursdays 9 am to 5 pm, and Fridays 1 pm to 5 pm. Museum of Science Boston Comes to Kensington!

The Museum of Science Boston comes to Kensington August 14th at 10:00 and 11:30 am.This free event is part of the Library’s “Dream Big” Summer Reading Program. With their portable planetarium, Museum educators will take you on a tour of the solar system and beyond and provide tips on how you can navigate the night sky from your own backyard. The fun takes place at the Kensington Elementary School, but you must register at the Library  for either the 10:00 or 11:30 show. Children younger than age 9 must have an adult present with them during the presentation. Call the Library at 772-5022 with any questions.
