Retired from Dartmouth College as a history professor, Jere Daniell taught courses on Colonial America, The American Revolution and The New England Town.  He’s lectured in about three quarters of the state’s 235 towns and cities, frequently on the history of the community where he’s speaking.  He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Dartmouth.  He trained at Harvard to become a historian and in 1964 received a PhD.

Co-hosted by the Kensington Historical Society and the Kensington Public Library, this event is made possible by a grant from the NH Humanities Council.

Join us for Mystery Author Night!
Exeter’s own Brendan DuBois

Award winning mystery/suspense author Brendan DuBois, a former newspaper reporter and a lifelong resident of New Hampshire, will be at the Kensington Public Library on Tuesday, May 7th at 6:30 pm to talk about writing and publishing mysteries. He will also read an excerpt from a new book he is working on.
DuBois’ first novel, Dead Sand, a murder mystery set in Seacoast New Hampshire, was published in 1994. DuBois has written seven novels featuring Lewis Cole; the most recent is Deadly Cove. His most widely-published suspense-thriller, Resurrection Day, has received world-wide acclaim. First published in 1999, it takes place in October 1972, ten years after the Cuban Missile Crisis erupted into a full-scale atomic war, destroying the Soviet Union and decimating the United States. Called “one of the most inventive novels of alternative history since Robert Harris’ Fatherland”, Resurrection Day is a chilling tale of what might have been. Resurrection Day was called “brilliant” in a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, which also said it was “what-if thriller fiction at its finest.”

Starting immediately, story time will be held on Tuesdays at 10:30 and Thursdays at 1:00. There will be NO STORY TIME the week of April 22.

When you are finished with your Easter eggs, come to the Library to hear about some exquisite Imperial Russian Fabergé eggs!

 Traditional Russian artist and lecturer, Marina Forbes, will offer a unique interactive and beautifully illustrated presentation on Imperial Russian Faberge Eggs on Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30pm at the Kensington Public Library, 126 Amesbury Road in Kensington.

This unique and beautifully illustrated presentation will focus on the life and remarkable work of Russian master jeweler and artist, Peter Carl Fabergé. The program will feature a spectacular photo-tour of the Fabergé collection at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg. Emphasis is on the important role of egg painting in Russian culture and on the unique development of this major Russian art form from a traditional craft to the level of exquisite fine art under the patronage of the tsars.

The fascinating history of these eggs and their role in the dramatic events of the last decades of Romanov rule in Russia and in the years following the Revolution will also be discussed by presenter Marina Forbes.

Presenter Marina Forbes is a lecturer, historian and award-winning artist who has written extensively on Russian traditional arts, history and the rich tapestry of Russian culture. She is licensed with the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, and is featured on the NH Council on the Arts Rosters for Arts in Education and Traditional Arts. Each year, Marina leads cultural tours to Russia where she regularly updates her scholarship, gathering photos and documents, visiting craft factories, GULAG sites and monasteries, and interviewing journalists, political figures and scholars on the current state of affairs in Russia. Marina has a distinctive ability to generate energy and enthusiasm in the audience and to bring the rich fabric of traditional Russian art and folklore to life for children of all ages through memorable and thought-provoking programs. Marina’s talks are sometimes a little bit funny, sometimes a little bit sad…. but always unmistakably Russian.

Starting on National Take Your Child to the Library Day, Feb 2, we will hold a monthly Saturday Story Time. This program will be held the first Saturday of every month at 10:30.

Also on National Take Your Child to the Library Day( Feb2) we will have refreshments and book marks set out for your child to color.  There will also be a drawing for Diary of a Wimpy Kid- The Third Wheel, by Jeff Kinney. For the tweens and teens, you can enter to win Stick Man’s Really Bad Day by Steve Mockus. Please come and celebrate this day with us!!!!!

Valentine String Art- Running Tuesdays after school, Jan 29th, Feb 5th and 12th. This program is for children grades 3-5. We will be creating some awesome art, so bring your imaginations! Prior registration is required for this event.

Join us Tuesday, January 29th  at 6:30 pm. for a discussion of Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey: The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle by The Countess of Carnarvon.  We will have copies here at the Library or you can go on New Hampshire Downloadable Books  to download an audio book or e-book.  Hope to see you!
